This winter I've decided to take on huge challenge. I've decided to join an Avon Breast Cancer 3Day walk. 60 miles from Bear Mountain to Manhattan in 3 days!

I have several friends that are suffering with cancer and was in turmoil over what to do to help them. There didn't seem to be anything I could do for them except offer sympathy. It wasn't enough. I felt helpless. By joining the thousands of other people who will participate in this year's walks I have found an answer. I've become empowered! I can help! I can make a difference!

I've formed a team of 12 women to walk with me on a team. We call ourselves The Healing Soles We all have our own reasons for joing the walk. It is a gigantic undertaking for us. We're housewives, mothers, teachers, but above all we're friends with the same ideals. I have even enlisted one young women, just barely 17 years old, who cares enough about the cause to join us in our mission. It is thrilling to know that we will all be working together towards an ultimate goal that will help so many people.

We all know the statistics. 182,000 women will be diagnosed this year with Breast cancer. That's 500 per day. 80% of these have no predispositon or family history of the disease in their family history. 40,000 women will die this year alone. Those are the facts.

I know 8 women who suffer with cancer. That's 8 too many! All of these women are young, close to my own age of 37. I'm shocked that I can name so many. They're friends and family members, mothers, sisters, daughters, aunts,and cousins. If you don't know someone suffering with it, chances are you will soon. It could be me or you, my daughter, my mother, or my sister, or yours, that's afflicted next. You never know. I'm doing this walk for all of them, and for you and me.
